Tourist Attractions in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the biggest present capital in Cambodia as located on the banks where three rivers Mekong, Tonle Basac and Tonle sap converge. Phnom Penh is Cambodia’s commercial and political hub and as one of the nicest cities in Southeast Asia in it’s colonial days. The bustling city with charming mixes of modern development and the past French colonial charms is Phnom Penh.

ROYAL PALACE

Royal PalaceThe Royal Palace is an awe-inspiring sight and consists of a number of structures within a pagoda-style compound including the throne room, the Silver Pagoda of which its floor is made up of 5000 silver tiles and the Napoleon III Pavilion are the most prominent features from the street.

NATIONAL MUSEUM

National MuseumBeside The Royal Palace, The distinctive rust-red building, National Museum was dedicated by King Sisowath in 1920 next to the Royal Palace. It have more       than 5000 artifacts of Khmer arts, especially the sculptures from different periods of Cambodian history, the 19th century dance costumes, the royal barges and the palanquins. There is also a good collection of pieces from later periods, including a special exhibition of post Angkorian Buddha figures.

WAT PHNOM

Wat Phnom A small hill crowed by an active wat (Pagoda) marks the legendary founding place of the Phnom Penh. The hill is the site of constant activity, with a steady stream of the faithful trekking to vihear, shrines and fortune tellers on top.

TOUL SLENG MUSEUM (S- 21)

Toul SlengToul Sleng was   converted from High school into S-21 prison since Khmer Rouge came to power. inmates were systematically tortured, sometimes over a period of months, to extract confessions, after which they were executed at the killing fields of choeung Ek. Now it is going to be museum.

INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT

An Angkorian style tower, the inimitable place in the whole city, located in the heart of the Phnom penh. It was built in 1958 to symbolize Cambodian Independence Day after winning back their independence from the French protectorate on the 9th of Noverber 1953. The monument attract many tourists for its peculiar looking but unique style distinguishes it from all the buildings in the city. It is also used as a memorial place dedicated to the Cambodian's patriot who died for the country.
